Reveal Your Brightest Smile With Our Teeth Whitening Solutions

Stains and discolouration can dull your smile, making it look less vibrant. Factors such as coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, and ageing can cause stains that may not be removed with regular brushing and cleaning. In such cases, professional teeth whitening treatments can help restore the brilliance of your smile, lightening the colour of your teeth by several shades.

At Lower Plenty Dental, our teeth whitening treatments are tailored to your needs. With a thorough examination to rule out dental disease or any potential problem, we aim to provide a safe and gentle experience with visible and lasting results.

Teeth Whitening Services In Lower Plenty

Teeth whitening is an ideal solution for people who want a whiter smile without getting their teeth drilled. It’s quick, non-invasive and lets you lighten your teeth to your desired colour. However, it’s important to note that teeth whitening only removes surface stains and cannot change the original colour of your tooth. Additionally, individuals with gum disease, multiple dental restorations, pregnant or lactating women, and allergies to bleaching agents may not be eligible for teeth whitening. Alternative cosmetic treatments, such as dental veneers, can be a more viable option.

We offer three types of teeth whitening:

Take Home Teeth Whitening

Ideal for those with sensitive teeth, this process involves two to three appointments.

First Appointment

We take impressions to create your custom-made teeth whitening kits, recording the colour of your existing teeth. This helps us predict the potential whitening outcome, showing how well your teeth will respond to the treatment. If your teeth have not been cleaned in the past three months, we recommend a professional cleaning for optimal results.

Second Appointment

This includes polishing your teeth to remove surface stains for more effective results. You will be given your custom teeth whitening kits and instructions on their usage. Over 14 days, you'll wear the home whitening system for 30 minutes or as advised by our dentist. Additional appointments may be needed for assessment and further work.

Third Appointment

Sometimes, a third visit may be necessary to re-assess the whiteness achieved and plan any further dental work. You may need to continue the treatment to get your desired shade, or we may recommend a different whitening gel to improve results.

In Chair Teeth Whitening

Suited for those who want instant results, in-chair teeth whitening gives you a whiter smile in just one visit. While it offers a quick whitening result, it may increase tooth sensitivity.

Here’s what you can expect during an in-chair teeth whitening treatment:

  • During the procedure, the whitening gel will be applied to your teeth for two or three 8-minute sessions, with an optional fourth 8-minute session. The gel concentration meets the Australian TCA recommendations and guidelines.
  • A plastic retractor may be placed in your mouth to help keep it open, and the soft tissues of your mouth (i.e. your lips, gums, cheeks and tongue) will be covered to ensure they are not exposed to the gel during the procedure.
  • Lip balm may also be applied as needed, and you will be provided protective eyewear for your eyes. After the treatment is completed, the retractor and all gel and tissue coverings will be removed from your mouth. Before and after the treatment, the shade of your teeth will be assessed and recorded.
Please note that LED light is not universally acknowledged to help the whitening effect long-term. However, it is available at your request to help in the short-term whitening effect by dehydrating the tooth (think of a wet fabric versus a dry one), but this will increase sensitivity.

Combination Of Take Home And In Chair Whitening

Our combination teeth whitening treatment gives you the benefits of an instantly whiter smile with in-chair whitening and maintaining the shade with custom take-home teeth whitening kits. This option is suitable for people who don’t have sensitive teeth and want to retain the whitening effect after treatment.

FAQs

Over time, stains seep into the first few layers of your teeth' enamel (outer shell). These stains cannot be removed by brushing or polishing the teeth. The whitening gel safely penetrates the first few micro-millimetres of enamel and draws the stain out, restoring the tooth enamel to its natural whiteness and brightness.
The whitening process will allow your teeth to whiten as much as your teeth will naturally allow. In most cases of staining where the discolouration has occurred from external sources such as wine or smoking, the whitening process is very successful. However, when the staining is from deep inside the tooth, the success rate is reduced, and there is no sure way to predict the extent of the whitening result.
Tooth sensitivity is the most common problem encountered. If you have generally sensitive teeth, we may need to spread out the whitening into a longer time frame, or we can provide de-sensitising agents such as ToothMousse to desensitise between whitening sessions.
